Michel catalog Germany postal stationery edition 2025/26
Description: Collecting postal stationery continues to enjoy unbroken popularity, which is reflected in a stable market situation. The dissolution of collections that have often grown over decades has brought material onto the market that has not been seen for a long time. High increases at auctions, especially for top items, continue to testify to high demand.
The latest research findings provided to the editorial team by working groups, experts, and interested collectors have once again been incorporated into this 24th edition of MICHEL Postal Stationery Germany.
Particularly noteworthy is the section on German states – Württemberg, which has been further revised to include the cataloging of official postal stationery and postal stationery from individual authorities, with the addition of previously unrecorded subtypes and, in some cases, significant price increases. This section and the section on the German Reich contain additional information on the earliest known dates of use.
A new discovery after 80 years in Allied Occupation – French Zone (exhausted issues) is particularly noteworthy and can be found as an illustration on the front cover.
For the Federal Republic and Berlin (West), newly identified common cliché types are shown for all issues from 1952 onwards for radio lottery postcards.
Numerous new issues have again been recorded by Deutsche Post. Following the initial introduction of special value stamps identical in design to new postage stamps in spring 2021, the value stamps of the new permanent series “Welt der Briefe” (World of Letters), introduced at the end of 2021, also feature different matrix codes for each postal stationery item. A special feature is represented by some of the special envelopes issued by Postphilatelie, on which no matrix code was printed by mistake in the first editions.
At the beginning of 2024, the option of franking Dialogpost with stamps was discontinued, as a result of which the corresponding postal stationery was withdrawn from sale.
For own issues with official postmarks, cataloging will continue from 2021, and for private mail postmarks “Deutsche Post” from 2020. From October 2022, the form of the individual Deutsche Post postmarks will change, with the use of enlarged matrix codes that are different for each postal stationery item. An explanation of this can be found in the extended introduction on p. 850. Following the discontinuation of Dialogpost franking with postage stamps, the following items, which only feature an image motif instead of a postage stamp, do not constitute postal stationery and will not be cataloged.
Deutsche Post AG's private mail issues in the freight mail sector now include parcel stamps designed specifically for the shipment of urns, which were previously unknown despite the service having been in existence since 2015. Following the discontinuation of the service on September 30, 2025, and the resulting withdrawal from sale, these are among the rarest modern postal stationery issues.
